I was born into a fairly conservative Catholic family. When I was 3 and a half, the elders in the house decided to teach me the basic prayers and also thought I should be part of the everyday rosary. I don’t remember who taught me the prayers, it should have been valyammachi (my grandmother) because looking back I don’t think anybody else would have had the patience to do that.

I had taken the challenge of memorizing the prayers very seriously. I knew I was intelligent but somehow felt it was being put to test and I should live up to my expectations. So the next day when it was rosary time, I joined in with full vigor. It was one of those rare days when my father would return early from work. He usually used to come late after the rosary is done. I used to wonder why nobody waited for him to come for the rosary. Had to wait another decade to understand why it was so…

Anyways when my father saw me chanting those prayers he was noticeably furious although he didn’t tell anything immediately. He had this sharp gaze that could communicate the anger better than any Shakespearean verse could do. Once rosary was done, he asked me whether I knew the meaning of the prayer I was saying. He told “you should never keep saying anything that you don’t understand just because people around you are doing it or asked you to do it”. With that warning, he started explaining to me the meaning of each prayer line by line. And the prayers basically are 3 – “Our father who art in heaven”, “Hail mary full of grace ” and “Glory be”.

After a long sitting when he was done explaining the meaning of all three he asked whether I had anything to ask. I asked him “why do we have to repeat these prayers over and over again (that is what basically rosary is all about!), why don’t the god get it in one go?”. He loved the question so much that he said “yeah you are right. He will get it in one go. From tomorrow onwards you don’t have to say the entire rosary. Just tell these prayers once.” I was happy and relieved because rosary was boring enough and I hadn’t quite enjoyed my first rosary as a full participant. And that was my father, he not only encouraged me to question but almost always rewarded me when I asked the good ones.

    You should peek at Yahoo’s home page and watch how they create article titles to get viewers to open the links.
    You might add a video or a related pic or two to grab people excited about what you’ve got to say.
    In my opinion, it would bring your posts a little bit more
    interesting.

    I have always disliked the idea because of the costs.

    on a number of websites for about a year and am concerned about switching to another platform.

    I have heard fantastic things about blogengine.net.

    Is there a way I can import all my wordpress posts into it?
